About
Its Japanese name means “cat shark” — the round head and the ridges above its eyes look a little like a cat. It is a small, gentle shark found along the coasts of Japan.
There is a hard spine in front of each of its two dorsal fins. Its flat, molar-like teeth crush shellfish and sea urchins shell and all. Its eggs come in spiral-shaped cases that are wedged into rock crevices.
